Chapter 21 Annotated

After a few hours of being gone, Jinxx was starting to worry about Lee. Pulling his phone out, Jinxx decided to call Lee to check on her.

“Lee,” Jinxx said after Lee picked up, “Where are you? You promised you’d be back two hours ago.”

Jinxx heard Lee say something about an old friend she bumped into while she was out shopping, and she would be a little late.

“Alright, baby. Just hurry back. I miss you already,” Jinxx told Lee, wishing she was there with him.

Sighing gently, Jinxx went downstairs to find something to fix something for dinner.

An hour later, Lee walked through the door, Lilith on one arm, and a bag of something in her othеr arm.

“Baby,” Jinxx said with his stern voice, “You said you’d be homе three hours ago! Where were you?” Jinxx asked, his voice growing angry.

“I told you on the phone, Jinxx! I bumped into an old friend, and I stopped for a while to catch up a little,” Lee replied, her attitude showing as well.

“It seems like you always bump into a friend when you go out,” Jinxx spat out.

“I’m not dealing with this right now, Jinxx. Come find me whenever you calm down,” Lee told him, her attitude showing in full force.

And with that last sentence, Lee dropped the bag she was carrying, and stormed out the door, slamming it behind her.

Jinxx groaned out in a mixture of anger, and stress. He didn’t know what had gotten into his wife, but he didn’t really like it.

Lee sighed as she carried Lilith safely in her arms, on her way to her brother’s house. Finally arriving at the door, Lee sighed again, and finally mustered up the courage to knock on the door.

Lee jumped when Jayy opened the door. Jayy exhaled deeply as he looked down at Lee, hoping she had a good reason why she was there.

“Lee. I suppose you have a valid reason you’re here,” Jayy said, before lighting up a cigarette.

“I had a fight with Jinxx. I’ve got nowhere to stay. Can I stay with you and Jeffree?” Lee asked as she began to cry.

Jayy wrapped his sister in a hug, “You can stay with us, Lee. Okay? We’ll take care of you. I promise,” Jayy told Lee, trying to reassure her.

Lee nodded, drying her tears away as Jayy broke the hug.

“I see Lilith is with you,” Jayy observed as he led Lee inside.

Lee nodded again, “I didn’t want to leave her. She means everything to me. Thank you for letting me stay here. I told Jinxx to find me whenever his attitude calmed down,” Lee told Jayy as she sat down on the couch.

“What exactly happened, Lee?” Jayy asked as he sat down next to her.

Lee sighed deeply, “I went shopping with Lilith for some last minute Halloween items, and while I was picking out a gothic dress for my costume, I bumped into my old friend. We started talking for a while, and my friend did invite me to his house for a cup of coffee to catch up. I accepted the invitation, paid for my items, and drove to his house with him. We sat around for at least an hour just talking about what’s happened between us. A little bit into my visit, I got a call from Jinxx wondering where I was. I told him that I was with a friend from school, and we were just hanging out and catching up. After I came home, Jinxx was upset with me because I wasn’t home when he expected me,” Lee paused to take a breath and to wipe forming tears away, “Jinxx began arguing with me over whether or not I see someone I know every time we go out. Like I told you earlier, I told him to find me whenever he calms his attitude down,” Lee finished her thoughts, and instantly started crying.

Jayy exhaled deeply as he tried to process what his sister had told him. Sighing deeply, Jayy finally processed everything he was told, and was about to reply when Jeffree walked through the door.

“Hey baby,” Jeffree told Jayy, before he noticed Lee, “And I guess, hi Lee? Jayy, what is she doing here?” Jeffree questioned as he sat down in the large recliner facing the couch.

“She had a fight with her husband, Jeffree. I’m gonna let Lee stay here until Jinxx calms down. Okay?” Jayy replied, hoping it would be a valid answer.

At the mention of the name Jinxx, Lee burst out in tears, as the memory was still fresh in her mind. Jeffree got up from his seat on the recliner, and gently removed Lilith from Lee’s arms as Lee kept sobbing.

Jayy sighed, feeling sorry for his sister as he wrapped her in a hug, “It’s going to be okay. Okay? I promise you, Lee, as long as there’s blood in my body, then everything’s going alright.”

“T-thank you, Jayy,” Lee stuttered out, “I can’t believe after all these years of being happy together, he gets mad at me. We even tied the knot over a year ago. He seemed so happy then. What went w-wrong?” Lee managed to stutter out.

“It sounds like something on his end, hun,” Jeffree spoke up, “You might need someone to sit down with him and find out what’s wrong,” Jeffree suggested, gently caressing Lilith’s cheek, which caused her to giggle.

Sighing heavily, Lee leaned against Jayy’s shoulder, “I don’t know, Jeffree. M- Jinxx seems to have gotten distant,” Lee paused to sigh again, “I really don’t know. It’s getting late, though. I’m really tired.”

“Before you go to bed, would you mind telling me which friend you bumped into today?” Jayy asked Lee, wrapping Lee in a hug.

Lee gave into the hug before returning a hug to Jayy, “My friend Ashley Purdy. He’s been my friend for years. Like you and Jeffree, Ashley is also gay. And now, I’d like to go to bed,” Lee said with a yawn.

Jayy chuckled as he stood up, and offered his hand to his sister, “Let me show you the guest room. It’s hardly ever used. When it is, it’s only used by me whenever Jeffree steals the bed,” Jayy told Lee with another chuckle.

“What about Lilith? You guys don’t happen to have a crib lying around, do you?” Lee asked, her voice full of worry.

“As a matter of fact, I believe we do in the basement. Jeffree and I wanted to adopt a baby, you see, but apparently, we weren’t stable enough to have a child here,” Jayy replied, leading Lee up the stairs, “Jeffree! Hand me my niece, and go get the crib,” Jayy called down to Jeffree from the top of the stairs.

Jeffree nodded as he walked up the stairs to hand Lilith to Jayy before going down to the basement to get the crib that was down there.
