Andrew comes back to Orange, New Jersey after nine years for his mom’s funeral. Talks to some old friends, Mark and Dave, has an two fairly awkward conversations: one with his aunt and another with his father
INT. AIRPORT BATHROOM – DAYTIME [Andrew washes his face and then looks in the mirror, takes a deep breath and leaves. As he walks out towards the door, all the motion-sensor sinks go off as he passes them.]
EXT. CEMETERY - DAYTIME
SYLVIA LARGEMAN
♫Thanks for the time
That you've given me
The memories are all in my mind
And now that we've come
To the end of our rainbow
There's something
I must say out loud
Yes, you're once, twice
Three times a lady
I love you
Yes, you're once, twice
Three times a lady
Three times a lady
I love you (2x)♫
[Andrew makes his way over to Dave and Mark.]
DAVE
Oh Shit, yo.
MARK
Holy shit.
ANDREW
What's up, man?
MARK
Largeman, what are you doing here?
ANDREW
Uh, that's my mom.
DAVE
Fuck.
MARK
Oh, fuck.
Sorry.
ANDREW
Yeah.
MARK
So, welcome back home.
ANDREW
Thanks.
MARK
So what have you been doing? You still, uh, acting and shit, right?
ANDREW
Yeah.
DAVE
I-In L.A., right?
ANDREW
Yeah.
MARK
That's cool. I hear that place is, like, fucking crazy. My cousin's a writer out there. Says that place is mad crazy. He's, like, writing a movie about snowboarders or some shit. I don't...I don't know. Um, but I should introduce you to him, Largeman. Maybe you two could do something together.
ANDREW
Yeah, definitely.
DAVE
What are you doing tonight, man?
ANDREW
Uh, nothing. No real plans. I'm just in town for a couple days, so...
DAVE
You should come out with us. We're gonna go over the Gleasons' house. They're having some...fucking huge party or something.
MARK
Supposedly.
DAVE
Well, yeah. Supposedly.
ANDREW
Really?
MARK
He lives up on the hill. We'll probably go over there after we bury your mom.
DAVE
Well, I got to shower.
MARK
Same.
INT. LARGEMAN ESTATE: LIVING ROOM
SYLVIA
Do you know your mother redid the hallway bathroom?
ANDREW
What? I'm sorry. What?
SYLVIA
Since I met her, she never showed an interest in anything. All of a sudden, a month ago, she wakes up...she wants to redecorate a bathroom. I helped her.
ANDREW
Oh, must have been fun.
SYLVIA
Well, I sew.
SYLVIA
I made you something. It's a shirt.
ANDREW
That's... That's good. Thank you.
SYLVIA
Will you try it on now?
ANDREW
Now?
SYLVIA
In case I have to fix it before you leave again and we don't see you for another nine years. I wanna make sure it fits.
ANDREW
Oh. Okay.
SYLVIA
You're gonna love the material. I used the leftovers from your mother's design. Gorgeous.
INT. HALLWAY BATHROOM – A LITTLE LATER [Andrew models the new shirt with the matching wallpaper behind him.]
INT. GIDEON’S OFFICE
ANDREW
Hi.
GIDEON
Hello.
ANDREW
How you doing?
GIDEON
"Well, besides that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the show?"
ANDREW
You know, I'm not really sure what to say here, Dad, so I'm sorry.
GIDEON
Mm. How are you?
ANDREW
I'm okay. I've been getting these really bad headaches though. Um, they're really quick. It's like a... just a little lightning storm in my head. Just for a second, and then it's gone. I just thought maybe you could help me get that checked out while I'm home.
GIDEON
Go see Dr. Cohen first thing in the morning. He's a neurologist in my building. I-I'll call him. He'll fit you in. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.
ANDREW
Place looks good.
GIDEON
Oh, that's nice. Yeah, we've been doing a lot of work on it.
ANDREW
Really?
GIDEON
Actually, no. I don't know why I just said that.
ANDREW
Someone redid the, uh, hallway bathroom. I saw that.
GIDEON
Yeah. That's new. I'm glad you're here. Saying good-bye is important. I'm glad you could fit it in.
