New Song

Well I wanted to write a new song
But I didn't know where to start
I wanted it full of beauty, full of power
I wanted it to be a true song
To tell it from the heart
But then I thought "Fuck it, I've only got half an hour."

So this is my new song
I only wrote it this afternoon
A little bit blue song
With a slightly wistful chorus tune

Though I hate to have to read things off the page (Yes I do)
If I don't the chords might go a little bit strange

So this is my new song
And if its originality is in doubt
Then this is a "screw you" song
Y'know, it ain't easy churning this shit out

And in a couple of months it won't be new anymore (No it won't)
And you'll all have heard it a dozen times or more

It'll just be an old song
Disappointingly not obscene
Just another Pete Gold song
To stick on my album at track 14
