[Professor Schickele]
Sorry about that, folks: thanks for all those calls, but we can't stop the music once it starts
[Blondie]
That wasn't so bad anyway, now, was it?
[Professor Schickele]
And that about wraps it up for tonight!
[Jocko]
Time to leave your cares on the stairs and put your head on the bed!
[Professor Schickele]
Now, some of you may be looking up at that clock and saying, Hey, they've got another six, seven minutes to go! But here's the deal: we've had a request to play the theme music all the way through-
[Blondie]
(unhappily)
Oh, no, not again!!
[Professor Schickele]
No, we don't do this more than once a month, Blondie - but Bill Skakoon has called in all the way from Zapp!
[Blondie]
Hey, Prof, can't you do this tomorrow night, when I probably won't be around anymore anyway?!
[Jocko]
Hey, Blondie, what would the show be without you?
[Professor Schickele]
You'll be here, Blondie, I'm sure it's just gonna be a matter of an apology or something!
[Jocko]
We're all behind you!
[Blondie]
Oh, sure, with friends like you-
[Professor Schickele]
And our theme music is, of course, the "Pachelbel Canon", one of the most famous-
[Blondie]
"Famous" isn't the word!
[Jocko]
"Ubiquitous," perhaps!
[Blondie]
How about "unavoidable," like death and taxes?
[Professor Schickele]
"Famous" will do just fine. Now, it wouldn't hardly be the "Pachelbel Canon" if it weren't arranged for something - and the version we use is played by a Renaissance ensemble, featuring the rebec, the cornetto, the straw fiddle, the bass crumhorn, and a couple of drums, all played by members of the semi-pro Musica Antiqua of the University of Southern North Dakota at Hoople
Hey, it's been a kick-and-a-half hanging out with you tonight! I'm Professor Pete!
[Jocko]
I'm Jocko!
[Blondie]
And I'm out of here-
[Professor Schickele]
(laughs)
Oh, sit down, Blondie! And I hope we'll be seeing each and every one of you again tomorrow night, right here on WTWP, for "The Last Gasp"!
