The Boy wakes up on a bus in a Methodist church parking lot. There's a note taped to the seat that says "Read me" with a heart. His stops. The Boy grabs it quick and stuffs it in his pocket before anyone else sees it
The Boy stands up to leave, excited to at least have a note, when a girl in the back of the bus yells, "Bye, Destiny!"
The Boy shrugs and waves back. Goodbye, I guess
The Boy is halfway across the parking lot when he reads the note
"Roses are red, violets are pretty, I like you too, and there's no such thing as destiny."
On the bottom of the note it said, "Send me letters," with an address scribbled next to it
The Boy folds the note and puts it away. He finds his dad at the end of the parking lot and hops in the back seat
THE BOY
"Dad…do you believe in destiny?"
DAD
"The first time I see you in a month and the first thing you say is 'Do I believe in destiny?'"
THE BOY
"I met someone at camp and I guess they changed me."
The Boy's father makes a surprised kind of noise
DAD
"Listen, son, all I know is that things happen for no good reason all the damn time and it's not destiny. It's evolution, progress, and maturity. It's just life, is all, son."
The Boy ponders this as his father stops at a light
THE BOY
"Dad…can we stop at the post office…I need stamps."
School starts in 2 weeks. At least he has a friend. The Boy smiles. He has a purpose. It's a great time
