The original demo was recorded during a session in Antwerp in 2018, but wasn’t scheduled to be on the record. When playing this demo to producer GGGarth in Canada in 2019, he immediately fell for the song and connected with the lyrics, and convinced the band to record it. So this song made a comebac...
[Verse 1]
Force me to love myself
Ten times the weight
Like a widow weighing down her faith
Force me to find myself
Ten times the haze
On the other side I found my way
[Chorus]
No one has to know
That I will go this far
I know it inside as I hold my heart for you
That I will go this far
No one in life who will know
That I will lose
It all
[Verse 2]
Force me to love myself
Ten times the cage
Like a borough closing down its gates
Force me to calm myself
Ten times the rage
With another word it just might break
[Chorus]
No one seems to know
That I will go this far
I know it inside as I hold my heart for you
That I will go this far
No one in life who will know
That I will lose
[Bridge]
Now that I greet the end
And go where I will go
Heaven inside my hands
I hope that I won't be alone
[Chorus]
When I will go this far
I know it inside as I hold my heart for you
That I will go this far
No one in life who will know
That I will lose
It all
When I will go this far
No one in life who will know
That I will lose
It all
[Outro]
Such a clever way of nothing new
Such a clever way of nothing new
Ten Times the Weight was written by Casper Starreveld & Eloi Youssef & Jan Haker & Niles Vandenberg.
Ten Times the Weight was produced by Kensington & Garth Richardson.
Kensington released Ten Times the Weight on Fri Oct 18 2019.
The song has a lot of moving time signatures, so we had to be very precise and concentrated when recording the instruments. Because the theme of the song is so heavy (literally), we spent a lot of time on getting the performances exactly right.
Eloi wrote ‘Ten Times The Weight’ when Chris Cornell (the lead singer of rock bands Soundgarden and Audioslave) had just committed suicide. It’s an homage to him. It’s about suicide, hopelessness, and carrying the secret: the only way out I can see is in death.
