This was an early attempt at writing a poem for next year’s speech contest but has been scrapped. I feel this summed up my experiences with working.
I've felt like an adult since I could remember
Taking care of my homes and my siblings for what has felt like forever
I'm 16 and I'm working two jobs to keep a steady source of income
And for what?
So I can become responsible?
Jobs have been pushed onto me since I was 8
Ain't it great?
I was taking care of a house and a kid;
I did better than my stepmothers ever did.
We've been forced to grow up early
Taught to make a quick buck
All while being told that one day we'll bе out of luck
Our Earth is falling apart
But
If we work we'll be callеd smart for growing up a little too early.
