“Say No! To Authority” is the first song off Screeching Weasel’s debut album. It is a highly satirical hardcore punk song about going against those in power. It references political figures that were in office at the time, like president Ronald Reagan, and his counselor, Edwin Meese III.
[Intro]
That's right, your stereo is fucked up
[Verse 1]
I like Ronald Reagan
He teaches me to be a man
He shows me how to pull a scam
In the name of Uncle Sam
And I like Edwin Meese the Third
He tells me how to spend my time
Keeps nasty thoughts far from my mind
So that I don't grow up blind
[Chorus]
I say no!
I say no!
I say no!
To authority
[Verse 2]
I like my policeman
He rules my world with guilt and fear
Makes sure I know he's always near
In case I should start acting weird
Well, I need you, Big Brother
To show me how I should feel
To make sure I never stray
To make things be okay
[Chorus]
I say no!
I say no!
I say no!
To authority
