[Chorus: Joel Baker]
Let’s go for a walk love
Tell you all these things that I thought of
Singing out your name like a chorus
You breathe life into my sawdust
I don’t know it’s more just
Why would I be touring?
If you're not on the tour bus
We should spin the globe and just go where it calls us
Ordinary paupers
Backpacks, borders wonder like your tortoise
[Verse 1: Frankie Stew]
Grow old with you yeah I’d love too
I can’t see anybody else but us two
People know we’re together, they won’t talk or touch you
Even if I’m on tour then you're on the bus too
Sounds bait but I think I love you
When your sister got ill I can tell it done you
When my brother got ill it done me
Sometimes it’s clear but still hard to see
I got two full lungs but it’s still hard to breathe
I can’t describe it but you know what I mean
Only got one plan I ain’t got a plan B
Wanna get a yard, wanna have a family
But I’m scared I don’t have enough P
I know that money’s not everything you need
But it’s hard cos life’s not cheap
More time I think about life it gets deep
[Chorus: Joel Baker]
Let’s go for a walk love
Tell you all these things that I thought of
Singing out your name like a chorus
You breathe life into my sawdust
I don’t know it’s more just
Why would I be touring?
If you're not on the tour bus
We should spin the globe and just go where it calls us
Ordinary paupers
Backpacks, borders wonder like your tortoise
[Verse 2: Frankie Stew]
I’m still wondering
They say that love is a funny thing
I wrote a song for you it’s nothing big
Can’t hit the right notes but I love to sing
Dreamer
Me and you should team up
Know you love your free stuff
Fleabag, re-runs
Take you to the seafront
Rather go travelling than Ibiza
When things aren’t going my way that’s when I need ya
My worst nightmares I can’t see ya
Or it's either
Stop music be a full-time teacher
Not cos the job but because I’m still learning
I’m still working
Been through it but it’s still worth it
I don’t know where I’m going but I feel purpose
And when it comes to you yeah I feel certain
Not a doubt in my mind
Wonder why I feel so proud all the time
[Chorus: Joel Baker]
Let’s go for a walk love
Tell you all these things that I thought of
Singing out your name like a chorus
You breathe life into my sawdust
I don’t know it’s more just
Why would I be touring?
If you're not on the tour bus
We should spin the globe and just go where it calls us
Ordinary paupers
Backpacks, borders wonder like your tortoise
[Bridge/Outro: Joel Baker]
All my love
I wanna give you all my stars
Wanna give you all my love
Wanna give you all my heart
Wanna give you all my love
I wanna give you all my stars
Wanna give you all my love
Wanna give you all my heart
Tortoise was written by Ashley Henry & Joel Baker & Frankie Stew & Harvey Gunn.
Tortoise was produced by Harvey Gunn.
Frankie Stew & Harvey Gunn released Tortoise on Fri Feb 28 2020.
Tortoise actually materialised in a funny way. We saw Joel Baker post a video of him singing the chorus and playing guitar on his Insta, and thought it was incredible. We hit him up and asked if he wanted to co-write a song off it and got in the studio together.
Joel sent over some guitar and vocal stems and we built the beat and wrote the verses. Once we had a demo down, Ashley came in and laid down the keys.
The way Joel Baker works inspired this tune, was a pleasure to work with him and he kind of led the way on this one. We brought him down to studio and turned it into something special.
