how does obsession start? / a fishing lure hooked in the brain / a fire burning you up from the inside / first one betrayal / and then another // and then you realize that something in you / has changed / irreparably // you give up / everything / that was once important to you // you get on a boat / (the only place that has ever felt safe) / and you ignore / the worst / in order to hold on / to the best / to that feeling of being known // even when you try to extricate yourself / even when you try to loose the hook / even when you try to excise / the part of you that loves burning / you are drawn back // you don’t need to ask how obsession ends / (not for you domesticity / not for you a family / not for you a home) / a glass of wine / a cliff / blood everywhere // “this is all i wanted for you, for us” / “it’s beautiful” // and finally some kind of release
