Scene 23 Killer Legs Annotated

Someone starts banging on the door to the room. It gets flung open, Abby and Wray storm in, Abby instantly shoots Soldier 2.

Cherry:
I broke my leg.

Wray:
That’s okay. I made you something.

He rips off the remaining wood from her leg and then pulls up an assault rifle that he’s modified. He shoves it onto her torso, so now she has a leg gun.

Wray:
I do believe in you. Always have. I believe that you can be better. That you deserve better. Even better than me. Right now, I need you to become, who you’re meant to be… Stand.

Cherry stands up with her new leg; Soldier 1 is melting, grunting and snarling.

Abby: (to Dakota)
I’d stand clear if I were you.

Dakota gets out of the way, Soldier 1 then pukes out a tube of pus.

Wray:
Open that door, will you baby?

Cherry steps forward and lifts her new gun to Soldier 1’s body. She fires a grenade and sends him flying through the door and into the room where the other soldiers were watching the monitors. She steps through and opens fire on all of them, killing all of them.

Our four protagonists are now exiting the elevator, back to the holding cell where the rest of their posse is located. They enter the cell, passing around firearms to everyone.

Wray:
They’ve destroyed most of the tanks. Any that are left, we’ll get on our way to the helicopters. There are two helicopters, big enough to take all of us. Who can fly? (Wray raises his hand)

Cherry: (with implication)
Can anyone else fly a helicopter?

Skip: (stepping forward)
I can fly but, no way in hell I’m gonna fly tonight. (Cherry lifts her gun up to Skip) Okay. Cool. I’ll fly.

Wray:
Let’s go.

JT:
I think we’re gonna stay here Wray.

Wray: (handing Hague a detonator)
You’ll take care of this for me, then, Sheriff?

Hague:
With pleasure.

Wray:
Three minutes… Your brother’s a good man, JT.

JT:
Best in Texas.

Wray: (sits on the chopper, talking to Cherry)
Hop on… (she sits normal) No, the other way (she stands up and straddles him). No. The other way.

Wray is now seen driving out of a hanger, sliding the tail end of the chopper out, to show Cherry on the back, facing opposite him. He brings the bike to a stop, she opens fire on a slew of zombies and military men. The crew moves forward up the base. Wray and Cherry join them. The military men take cover behind a concrete barricade and begin loading up the helicopters.

Abby:
The helicopters are behind this wall.

Wray:
We make a run for it!

Abby:
No! If we all get killed, there’s no stopping this plague. Don’t you get it? We’re the antidote.

Wray:
Well, is there another way around?

Abby:
Wait here.

Abby then motions to his squad and turns the corner and begins moving forward. In the background you can see explosions. His crew positions themselves behind a barricade. Abby peeks out, then looks back, now fully turning his body out from behind the barricade he gets shot in the head, causing it to rip in two.

Cherry:
I don’t suppose there are any other biochemical engineers around? Heh.

Wray:
I’ll take that as a no.

A weapon fires and an explosion blasts directly behind the crew, they move forward.

Wray:
We have to get over that wall!

We cut back to JT and Hague in the holding cell.

Hague:
I was thinkin’ we could build us a new place, right there where the old one was. You cook. I work the back.

JT:
You don’t make that rent so goddamn high.

Hague:
We share the recipe, we share the rent.

JT: (turns his head towards his brother)
Start at 250 degrees.

Hague: (slightly sits up and pulls out his pen and notepad)
I knew it. For how long?

JT:
12 pounds?

Hague:
Sure.

JT: 12 pounds, 12 hours.

Hague:
Wrapped in tin foil, right?

JT:
I don’t use no goddamn foil.

Hague:
Damn… Tomatoes? Fresh?

JT:
Canned.

Hague:
No shit?

JT:
Yeah.

Hague:
You score me some?

JT:
Oh, yeah. ‘Cause we’re brothers.

Hague:
Thank you for this.

JT:
You just remember, you got to take this recipe to your grave.

Hague: (struggling to stay alive, dropping his pen)
I think I can… Goddamn guarantee that.

Sheriff Hague then passes away, leaning up against his brother. JT swallows his sadness, picks up the detonator, gives one final chuckle, then blows the base up.
