One of the goofier and light-hearted songs of I Enjoy Being a Girl, “Rodeo Parakeet” is inspired by Phranc’s bird Wee Gee, who would hop on and ride on dogs' backs. The song also features Brian Ritchie of Violent Femmes on mandolin.
[Verse 1]
He's only four and one half inches high
He's got a twinkle and he wears it in his eye
He's got a smile and it just won't quit
It's on his beak, it's permanent
[Chorus]
He's Wee Gee the rodeo parakeet
Wee Gee the rodeo parakeet
Wee Gee the rodeo parakeet
[Verse 2]
Now it all started one day in fall
My dog Rusty was walkin' down the hall
When Wee Gee spotted him with one of his beady eyes
And in two shakes of a lamb's tail, the bird was on that dog's hide
[Chorus]
He's Wee Gee the rodeo parakeet
Wee Gee the rodeo parakeet
Wee Gee the rodeo parakeet
[Bridge]
Now I been all over this here world
I have seen many a birds fly
But I never have done seen
No bird that could ride
You should see him with his chaps
And his Stetson when he's sittin' astride
With the gravel in his guts
And the spit in his eye
[Chorus]
He's Wee Gee the rodeo parakeet
Wee Gee the rodeo parakeet
Wee Gee the rodeo parakeet
[Verse 1]
He's only four and one half inches high
He's got a twinkle and he wears it in his eye
He's got a smile and it just won't quit
It's on his beak, it's permanent
[Chorus]
He's Wee Gee the rodeo parakeet
Wee Gee the rodeo parakeet
Wee Gee the rodeo parakeet
He's unique
