Irving Berlin (story)

Irving Berlin, the great American hit songwriter; just about everything he wrote was a hit. He's reported to have said - and I hasten't to add that this may be an apocryphal story - "A good war song never goes out of style." And I was thinking about that I was thinking "boy there is a terrible element of truth present in that remark", and I'm gonna do a song for you now that I wrote about 35 years ago during what was officially deemed a 'police action' by American military forces in Asia that went on for 10 years or so. I think that this song probably has as much poignancy tonight. With all due modesty, I think it has held up pretty well, but maybe it's because we just can't seem to learn that all-important lesson.
