First Corinthians, 13th chapter and 13th verse:
"And now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love."
Paul is showing us the picture of this lesson today, show us that love is the essential thing... for the world. For God so loved the world that He gave His Son, and we so love the Son that we give our lives, that we consecrate our service to Him. We realize that love is a practical thing; love is еssential in all of its walks of life and in all of its work. It is love that compеls the father to work and toil and labor for the welfare of his family. It is love that makes the mother sit up at night and care for the children, for those of the family who are sick and disabled. It is love that causes us to walk in clean and high places. It is love that enables us to place our feet, through Christ, on the Rock of eternal ages. It is love that gave Him the power and the place to say unto us "Come unto me, all ye that labor and heavy laden, and I will give you rest." It is the grace and the gift of His omnipotent love that He said unto us "If you love me, you will keep my commandments." It is love that enables us, Father, to realize that today is the day of salvation, and that we should not harden our hearts, but that we should look unto Him and live; realizing, Father, that as the days grow [long] and as the night grows dark and weary, long [?] drawn out and dreary before us — yet, there is a feeling and a consciousness of grace that enables us to realize that God is love and that we are His children who are rooted and ground in love. And as we walk through the King's Highway, up the path of eternal righteousness, we realize that we have a life, hidden with God in Christ, and that life exemplifies love in its truth and in its splendor. Today we think of thoughts of many ones, those whom we have loved, whom have passed away and gone to the realms of eternal bliss. But there awaits for us the crown of everlasting righteousness, a peaceful attitude, and a heavenly presence in His love that we too, sooner or later, shall walk with Him [and shall hold] and crown Him. We realize that through faith, we shall conquer. We shall obtain the crown of everlasting life because love is the key and the essential fact of all the beings of the world. And now [then/and] through faith, we realize [that] there abideth faith, hope and love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
What Is Love was written by Rev. W. A. White.
