Some people go to church to sing and pray
But they haven't the faith to stand the fray
They're sinners by practice but saints by word
And some are bigger liars you've ever heard
They call on Jesus with tears in their eyes
And their whole determination ain't nothing but lies
They promised their Maker they'd sin no more
But they're worse devils now than they were before
They know they're wrong for living this way
And God spurned the victim in the judgment day
Some people go to church to see the style
And all of our service ain't worth their while
Pretty soon they get sleepy and take a doze
No matter how thrilling the sermon goes
Between sleep and wake, they'll chant their song
Knowing to their heart [?] is wrong
And when the preacher's concluded, they'll all get glad
And the liar starts to shouting over sermon they had
They know they're wrong for living this way
And God spurned the victim in the judgment day
And some people go to church to put on airs
They can hardly kneel down to say their prayers
They've gone way adrift on their tea-hound style
And grace wouldn't reach 'em in a bob-hair mile
Why, the people are so wise, they've ignored [?]
They're the worst living creatures are from [?]
The greatest enjoyment, the foolish folks think
Is the Ford to ride and sunshine to drink
They know they're wrong for living this way
And God spurned the victim in the judgment day
And some people go to church for a sham
Go where friends have [been, but?] Lord will damn
For He'll judge the liar great and small
And upon their home His wrath shall fall
In their box-back suit and loud silk shirt
They've joined the church to hide their dirt
They entered therein like a filthy hog
Without even the plight of a poodle dog
They know they're wrong for living this way
And God spurned the victim in the judgment day
And some people go to church to pass off time
And they wouldn't donate or bid more than a dime
They grumble if their preacher asks for more
And will grab at their parsons and go out the door
In the name of God, they wouldn't do such
They state the preacher is hoarding too much
Just for reading the bible and singing a song
But they'll give every high yellow who comes along
They know they're wrong for living this way
And God spurned the victim in the judgment day
