[Verse 1]
Got a plate of pink cupcakes
To sugarcoat the aftertaste
But the blue, it floods my eyes
Your hands grip mine
My tongue still ties for you
[Refrain]
Ooh-ooh, and I'm back in black again
I know it's a touch I can't forget
Words that burn me like a cigarette
[Chorus]
Can I cross you out and unlearn you
From my body?
[Verse 2]
I didn't ever wear a dress
In case you'd thought I was asking for it
In my speech, my moves, my eyes
You stay disguised, I'm back to a child
[Chorus]
Can I cross you out and unlearn you?
Oh, wash that memory and unlearn you
From my body
[Refrain]
Ooh-ooh, and I'm back in black again
I know it's a touch I can't forget
Words that burn me like a cigarette
[Chorus]
Can I cross you out and unlearn you
From my body?

And that can last a lifetime. But as long as the work’s being done, and I’m unlearning, then I am not becomi...
I don’t know how I managed to get that one out. I had the lyric, “unlearn you from my body”, and I was interested in how, when you break up with someone, you still have phrases that you share and so you have to unlearn them.
Then when I started to write the melody, I realised what I’m really trying...
There’s a line in this song: ‘Got a plate of pink cupcakes to sugarcoat the aftertaste.’ When I came out about something that happened to me to do with abuse, I was taken to a cupcake shop. The cupcakes were literally to sugarcoat the aftertaste. The scariest line is ‘I didn’t ever wear a dress in c...
