To realize the importance of the postal system, imagine your town without the US Mail

In 1782, the Continental Congress guaranteed the mail service as a symbol of freedom by ordering that private letters could not be opened or delayed by postal authorities

Inscribеd on the front of the Genеral Post Office in New York City are these words:

"There is no mortal thing faster than these messengers. Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."
