“Spitting in the Wind” was released on April 10, 2024, two days before the full album release of “In Lieu of Flowers.” It is the seventh song on the album. The song details a performance of Aaron and the band in Los Angeles and how his alcoholism finally catches up to him.
It never rained in LA the whole year that I lived here
But all day today it’s pissing down a steady rain
And Rosa was late, snuck in through the side door
She hugged me so hard, I thought my ribs were gonna break
Yea I’ve had a few drinks to steady the nerves
Rosa could tell, I’ve been slurring my words
She seems worried about me again
I’m spitting in the wind
Staring down at my hand when it cramps up in Grapefruit
It gets stiff when it's cold out, it failed me again
They pulled out the pins at Samaritan last month
A lifetime of bad luck. Ain’t been the same since
And I see the suits in the halogen glow
Spilling their drinks, talking over the show
I feel the storm under my skin
I’m spitting in the wind
Fuck building a bridge
I’m burning it down
I’ll see you in the water
Call the label a grift
I curse Eric out
Its a fucking disaster
The whole band is pissed
They’re letting me drown
I led them to slaughter
Fuck building a bridge
I’m burning it down
I’ll see you in the water
Rosa musta split
Nowhere to be found
The rooms getting darker
My voice sounds like shit
I’m blowing it out
I’ll see you in the water
