[Intro]
"It's quite sweaty up here. Um, so the next one's 'Shine', and 'Shine' I wrote in Jamaica. I was there being very spoilt, doing my pre-production with Dave Stewart, who's from Eurythmics. I was there, drinking rum and having fun, rhyming as I go, and anyway, I arrived and I was having a great time, we'd just driven in in this nice van and there was reggae music, like Michael Jackson reggae, and kind of Madonna reggae - everything was like reggae version of people, which I thought was quite funny."
"And then when we got there, all the gear was kind of piling in and it was all good, and we kind of, em, we em... what was I gonna say? Yeah, sorry about which order it was, I'd wondered if I'd lied all these years. No, anyway. I got there and there was this torrential downpour and like really bad electrical storms, and as a result, all the gear that we were just about to start working on was dead. It just wasn't working, so that was a good start. And then I thought 'Okay, I can't really do very much so I might as well go for a nice swim.' So I went into the pool, and I dived quite deep, and I got water in my ears so I couldn't hear anything now 'cause I got it stuck underneath my large earwax that I had in my ears. Delicious! And then I thought 'Okay, I'm just going to chill out and I'm just gonna lie in the sun' and I didn't put enough sun cream on and went totally blistered and just red and horrible. And then I was like 'Oh my goodness!'. So that evening I sat out, had some rum and stuff and it was nice, and then I... and then... I got bitten to shreds by mosquitoes! So I just looked really hot at this point, really good. No chance of me, you know, having any nice Jamaican men. They had really nice bodies. So that was that. So this song's about that. It's called 'Shine'."
[Verse 1]
Rain drain my play away
Sun gun me down and burn me
Nature hates me today
My head distorts reality
[Pre-Chorus 1]
Madness just moved into my shadow
[Chorus]
Shine
I will not cry and I will not die, no
Shine
I will be there for me
Shine
I'll be just fine if I stay all mine
I'll shine, shine
[Verse 2]
Who waltzed me into this?
Am I now stuck here forever?
Luck just gave me a kiss
Then lashed me down with a leather strap
[Pre-Chorus 2]
Trying to learn to swim without any water
Trying just to begin just when you're in for the slaughter, yeah
[Chorus]
Shine
I will not cry and I will not die, no
Shine
I will be there for me
Shine
I'll be just fine if I stay all mine
I'll shine, shine, yeah
[Chorus]
Shine
I will not cry and I will not die, no
Shine
I will be there for me
Shine
I'll be just fine if I stay all mine
I'll shine, woah
[Bridge]
You will love me as a winner
You will love me as a winner
You will love me as a winner
You will love me as a winner, yes you will!
You will love me as a winner
You will love me as a winner
You will love me as a winner
You will love me
[Chorus - Variation]
Shine
Shine
I will be there for me
Shine
I'll be just fine if I stay all mine
I'll shine, woah
[Outro]
Why?
Why?
Why?
Why?
