[Intro]
"So I'm going to make it up to my mum now, by playing her favourite song. This is the one my mum always gets me to play, even though I've written like a hundred songs since. And if I'm ever like round a friend's house or if we're near a piano, which seems to be quite a lot with my mum - then she's says, erm, 'Oh, Immi, Immi, would you, would you play "Candlelight"? Would you?' so I always end up playing it. So this one I've played more than any other song on the planet... which I shouldn't be so sure about 'cause I'll probably get it all wrong now 'cause I haven't actually rehearsed this one 'cause I was like 'eh, I can do that one'. So, I think this one is about... 'cause I kind of wrote this one and then I kind of dissected it later when people have been asking me what it's about. And this one, I wrote this just before I signed to my first record company when I was 18 and I was a bit apprehensive, to say the least, about doing it 'cause I'd heard all the horror stories about record companies and I was worried they'd take away my love for music. Which they didn't, of course, but I was nervous that they would kind of ruin things 'cause it wouldn't become fun anymore. And actually it didn't become fun with them for quite a long time, actually, but um... So this is 'Candlelight'."
[Verse 1]
I am alone, surrounded by the colour blue
Inside a poem, the only words I ever knew
Washing my hands, of the many years untold
For now I am banned, my future is to unfold
[Chorus]
Would you take my candlelight?
Would you take my candlelight, no?
Would you take my candlelight away from me?
[Verse 2]
I am blind, my eyes covered from the outside
For I have lied, now all there is left for me to do is hide
Take in a deep breath and I lift my head
For I am a new man and I arise from my bed, yeah
[Chorus]
Would you take my candlelight?
Would you take my candlelight, no?
Would you take my candlelight away from me?
[Chorus]
Would you take my candlelight?
Would you take my candlelight?
Would you take my candlelight away from me?
[Interlude]
[Bridge]
This is all there is, I can see that now
I have to be careful with it, now it's been found
So fragile, but powerful, this is the light
Light of my destiny stay with me, through every night
[Interlude]
[Chorus]
Would you take my candlelight?
Would you take my candlelight?
Would you take my candlelight away from me?
[Chorus]
Would you take my candlelight?
Would you take my candlelight?
Would you take my candlelight away?
Away from me?
