Homonym track off Uffie’s debut album, it’s melody is based on a sample of The Velvet Underground’s song Rock and Roll.
Though it was written by Uffie, she had to credit Lou Reed as the composer just so she could get the permission to use the sample in the song.
[Verse 1]
When I'm drivin' in the sunshine, turnin' up the radio
I wonder back to the day when my baby ran away
He was sex dreams and denim jeans
We used to stay up all night
Playin' late 'til it was bright
But then he found the guitar
And our worlds were pulled far
He was sweet as nights
[Chorus]
Marilyn Monroe is turnin' in her grave
Our world is truly far from saved
It's our youth, we've seen it all
[Verse 2]
Days of whiskey, peace, and joy
Are the ones who ruled our world
Now I lay awake at night
Drippin' sweat and feelin' fright
I'm a bleedin' heart
He didn't deserve my affection
But he caught my attention
Sucked me down to the bottom
Where we both got burned
I'm a broken arrow
[Chorus]
Marilyn Monroe is turnin' in her grave
Our world is truly far from saved
It's our youth, we've seen it all
[Verse 3]
He missed the tales of classic beauty
And of Miss Bo-Peep
Times when a flag could fly
And a nation still had pride
We played cowboys and Indians
[Chorus]
When I'm drivin' in the sunshine, turnin' up the radio
I wonder back to the day when my baby ran away
He was sex dreams and denim jeans
