I was once talking to a friend of mine, weary from the last couple days of work, but my mind clearly wasn't tired not to conversate
He said "You wanna hear some shit that runs deep?"
I responded "Yeah, let's hear it"
He said "Have you ever heard about the red lamp theory? Well, it sounds like this
A college kid gets beat up by a frat guy's fist and wakes up on the ground like 'Shit, I gotta get to class', right?Picks himself up from the concrete, still bruised and offbeat but everything was in control in his soul
On his feet again, it was an odd feeling but he brushed it off
Freely down the long street, he started walking
Fixated on this one chick that he knew, he decided to pursue
They talked until the sky, it went from blue to a piss black and slowly, they became good friends
He saw a couple relationships that she made, but then all of them came and went
Finally, she wanted him
Slowly, they became inseparable, life was promising
Months turned to years
Out of college with a job and then finally they had themselves a son and a daughter, and every morning waking, he would make sure that they all were fed
Drive right to his job, his mom a stay-at-home-mom with them
Every night, he'd come home from a long shift, exhausted
Checked up on his son before he slept and read him stories til he dropped into his dreams
Then he creeped into his bed
But one night, just sitting in the living room, his head seemed to miss a glimpse
A vision almost scared him half to death
Looking up from the couch, he saw in front of him a red lamp that's been there his whole entire life, but something just wasn't quite correct
And he spent the night obsessing, staring at it
He stared so fucking long he was in anger, glaring at it
Shit, it was unbearable, tearing his hair out, scared of it
Til the night turned into the morning
Staring so long he missed his shift
He stared for 3 days until his wife was convinced he's sick
And finally he stood up from the spot and walked towards this object, consuming all his thoughts
All the sudden, the lamp started to glow until the brightness was consuming him
It opened up around him, and the light flooded the room
Then in a second, he could hear a commotion of sobs, screams as he began to come too, when awoke on the concrete back in college
And it was all just a life that he dreamed"
Yeah, a life that he dreamed
