Mrs Murphy cries when he waves her ta-ta
She dries her eyes and she smiles at her budgerigar

A middle-aged widow living alone
She has never known
Just what it's like to have a Casanova
Now she has a gentleman friend
But what he intends she doesn't know, though
And as soon as he goes
Fading away in his moonlight motor car

She pats her hair and she stares at her budgerigar

Afternoons they go for a drive
Tea around five and then they go to the sofa
And at half-past nine he turns on the light
He bids her goodnight but he doesn't know, though
That as soon as he goes
Smiling away in his magical motor car

Fat chance of romance with a budgerigar

She admires his elegant clothes
His finely chiselled nose, and he is such a classy mover
If he only knew how tender she felt
How quickly she'd melt, but he doesn't know, though
And as soon as he goes
Stroking his 'tache in his silvery motor car
Mrs Murphy cries when he waves her ta-ta
