[Ishmael, sung]
Pip? Has anyone seen Pip?
Just a small cabin boy
With a tambourine
Pip? Has anyone seen Pip?
Pip’s gone, gone, gone, gone, gone
Poor Pip
He went over
He went under
Pip jumped from the whaleboat
And he never came back
And I remember Pip used to make us laugh
I remember Pip used to make us smile
He’d play his tambourine and sing your favorite song
And he’d listen to your problems without judging right or wrong
Now Pip was only nine years old but he was pretty smart
He’d spin the compass double-time as he mastered Ahab’s charts
He was wonderful with knots, he tied them ropes in crazy shapes
And he’d hand out hand-made valentines and made excellent mix-tapes
Every day was Fourth of July, every night was Christmas Eve
And when Santa didn’t come, he’d grin and say “I still believe”
And he’d feel too much with his tender heart
His eyes were always welling up with tears
And the last thing I remember about Pip
Is how he’d play his tambourine and shake the ship
He’d rattle that thing ‘til the jinglers fell off
Oh Pip, I’ve missed you too long
And Pip went before any of us
He was the very first one
To have his heart swallowed by the sea
And though I never told him
I loved him like a son
He was all I wish that I could be
[Ahab, spoken]:
Pip? Pip?
Come on, wake up. Speak boy, speak!
