“Earth Intruders” is the first single released from Björk’s album Volta. Its lyrics have connection with a dream Björk had on a cross-Atlantic flight, after seeing the damage made by the 2004 tsunami in Indonesia. According to Björk’s interview for MTV in 2007:
…a “tsunami of millions and millions...
[Chorus 1]
We are the earth intruders
We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches
[Pre-Chorus 1]
Turmoil!
Carnage!
[Chorus 2]
Here come the earth intruders
We are the paratroopers
Stampede of sharp shooters
Come straight from voodoo
[Chorus 3]
With our feet thumping
With our feet marching
Grinding skeptics
Into the soil
[Verse 1]
Shower of goodness coming to
End the doubt pouring over
Shower of goodness
Coming to end
[Chorus 4]
We are the earth intruders
We are the sharp shooters
Flock of parachuters
Necessary voodoo
[Verse 2]
I have guided my bones
Through some voltage
And love them still
And love them too
[Pre-Chorus 2]
Metallic!
Carnage!
Furiocity!
Feel the speed!
[Chorus 4]
We are the earth intruders
We are the sharp shooters
Flock of parachuters
Necessary voodoo
[Verse 3]
There is turmoil out there
Carnage, rambling
What is to do but dig?
Dig bones out of earth
[Pre-Chorus 3]
Mud graves!
Timber!
Morbid trenches!
[Chorus 5]
Here come the earth intruders
There'll be no resistance
We are the canoneerers
Necessary voodoo
[Verse 4]
And the beast
With many heads
And the arms rolling
Steamroller
[Chorus 1]
We are the earth intruders
We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches
[Outro]
Forgive us, tribe
We are the earth intruders
We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches
We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches
We are the earth intruders
We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches
Marching
We are the earth intruders
Muddy with twigs and branches
Marching
Marching
Marching
Marching
Björk released Earth Intruders on Mon Apr 09 2007.
« It just came like a tsunami out of my mouth », she says, sounding still faintly surprised, « and lyrically it’s probably the most chaotic song that I’ve ever written, it sort of doesn’t make sense. » It is a marching song, « Bundle of bombardiers », it insists, « We are the canoneers/ Apache voodo...
