Audiotree Live 03/27/2014: A Supposedly Fun Thing That You’ll Never Do Again (Transcript)

Host: Alright! Naive Thieves on Audiotree Live.

Sort of tying in with the title of that last track, I've been into this writer named David Foster Wallace lately. And it doesn't matter if you know who he is, but he writes this essay that's called A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again and it's about a cruise that he went on and he hated it. And it fits really well with me 'cause I went on this family cruise and just loathed it.

So my question is, do you have a supposedly fun thing that you'll never do again?

Various Band Members: Uh. It's tough. It's really tough,

Host: (If you can think of one.)

Cameron Thorne: This is gonna sound really cheesy since we just did a song about not wanting to go to Hawaii. But I actually have family that live in Hawaii, so the last time I was out there was maybe three years ago and I'm terrified of heights. Just absolutely terrified. But I was going through a period where I was like "I just gotta do things that I'm really scared of" so my dad and I actually hiked up to this waterfall and then there was this ledge that was super tall. I was like, "Eh, I don't really wanna do this but I should do this." And I did, and it was fun, but I'll never do it again.

Host: (Laughs) So wait, you climbed up to the ledge, just looked down, and was like okay now—?

Thorne: No, I jumped off of it.

Yeah, yeah. I guess I left the most important part.

Host: (Laughs) Yeah, I didn't wanna assume that that was— Sweet.

Thorne: No, I jumped off of it, yeah.

Host: Sweet.

Thorne: It was terrifying. I had enough time— I'll never forget, I had enough time where I was falling—it probably was like not even that tall—but I had enough time when I falling I was like, "Oh this is really— Oh this is a long time. Oh sh—" as I'm falling.

Host: You realized that you hated it as it was happening. (Laughs)

Thorne: (Yeah, yeah.) It was a lot of love/hate happening in that span of time.

Host: Yeah. Dude, definitely. Great. Anyone else?

Various Band Members: (Come on, guys.) (I got nothing.) (Laughs)

Host: Sorry guys. I didn't mean for that to be so hard.

Thorne: Yeah, you killed us, man.

Host: Dang it, shoot, sorry. Okay, uh, think! Eh, just go into your next song.
