Formed in 2018, solo artists Gemini Genesis & Downtown came together to create a duo which demonstrates that the hip-hop game is still alive and well. In 2017, after meeting through a hip-hop showcase in New Jersey, the two connected after realizing they had the same love for music and decided to collaborate with the same goal in mind: BRING BACK REAL HIP-HOP.
The first collaboration between the artists was a single released in July of 2017 off Downtown’s mixtape “Downtown Killah” called “Fly Shit” which was released on YouTube as well as both artist’s SoundCloud accounts.
After releasing their first track, they were on the same bill for a few shows which gave them more opportunities to network and discuss future projects. Their second collaboration came in April of 2018 when they recorded “The Message,” a song with a strong boom bap, classic hip-hop feel to it. The song was placed on Downtown’s album “Nothing Left But Everything” and across all major music platforms such as Spotify, iTunes, Google Play & Tidal.
While simultaneously focusing on their own separate music careers, (both have two EPs coming in the new year) they have been working vigorously in the studio the past couple of months to bring forth their first collaborative album of the same name: Radio Killed The Hip-Hop Star. This will include 12 songs, all of which are collaborative. Stay tuned for more music from this refreshing new duo from Jersey.
