Bernadette Cooper is best known as the drummer and co-founder of the groundbreaking all-girl funk band Klymaxx that made their mark on R&B charts in the 80’s with hits like “Meeting In The Ladies Room,” “The Men All Pause,” and “I Miss You.”
Her story didn’t end with the girl band’s run of popularity though. She wrote and produced for scores of other artists like Teena Marie, Salt-N-Pepa, Paula Abdul, Shalamar, and Cheryl Lynn, as well as another brainchild of hers, the 80’s female trio Madame X.
Bernadette struck out on her own releasing the solo album Drama According To Bernadette Cooper in 1990 featuring the hilariously egotistical “I Look Good.” The song made such a splash that Bette Midler covered the song live and incorporated it into her Divas Las Vegas show.
Despite a good deal of legal bandying about which members can lay claim to the Klymaxx name, she still tours as Klymaxx featuring Bernadette Cooper. She also put an end to 25 year recording hiatus by independently releasing the solo sophomore album Last Diva on Earth, Episode 1: Planet Sexy in summer of 2015.
