It started off as that. But I’m from Hawaii. I went back to Hawaii, and it’s like that times a thousand. It’s more about Hawaii, but it’s just about gentrification in general.
Is that a slide guitar heard on this song?
We thought it would be cool to throw a little dobro on there. We’d never really used a dobro on something. Instead of doing electric guitar, we thought it would be cool to do an acoustic instrument, and that slide thing that just kind of came up.
Does Zac think the dobro sounds like something off a Beck record?
I was gonna say Kid Rock, but that’s way cooler.
What's the siren-like sound in the beginning of the song?
The sound was created with a bunch of effects and stuff, but with a lap steel. The lap steel that Brandon made tried to recreate that sound of the missile warning.
