When I was just a little boy
Carrying your books home from school
I remember the things you said
And the times you made me a fool

“You’re not in my class” you would say to me
“You’re not in my class and could never hope to be
You don’t impress me and it’s plain enough to see”
Then I just turned away and cried

Since then, time has just drifted by
And we’re both reaching maturity
But today when I called around
You had left a message for me

“You’re not in my class” you had written down
“You’re not in my class, so in future, don’t come ‘round
You don’t impress me and so someone else I found”
Then I just turned away to cry

One day, you will regret those words
When you find the mistake you have made
One day too, I will find success
And it may be my turn to say:

“You’re not in my class anymore, my friend
You’re not in my class anymore, so don’t pretend
You don’t impress me and you never will again
Perhaps you’ll turn away and cry
