“You” is one of six songs picked to represent the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018.
The song was revealed in full on January 24th 2018 on the BBC YouTube channel, two weeks before the public vote in February 2018.
[Verse 1]
She finds me shelter in the rain
Kisses my head before I sleep
She takes the sky and turns it blue
But she won't ever be blue
She makes me coffee 'fore I work
She'll sing my songs in bed 'til three
By my side, she'll stick like glue
But she won't ever be you
[Chorus]
Last night I died, I turned to grey
I found a girl, it's such a shame
The look of love is on her face
Oh what a waste
[Verse 2]
Sends me to sleep like rum and whiskey
Then takes me high as aeroplanes
There ain't nothing bad that she could do
But she won't ever be you
Maybe I'll tell her in the morning
Maybe I'll tell her in a week
I guess it's time she finally knew
That she won't ever be you
[Chorus]
Last night I died, I turned to grey
I found a girl, it's such a shame
The look of love is on her face
Oh what a waste
[Outro]
She's in my head but not my heart
She's in my bed but not my dreams
I think it's time I tell the truth
That she won't ever
She will never be you
You was written by Laura White & Herman Gardarfve & Ashley Hicklin.
Jaz Ellington released You on Wed Jan 24 2018.
In The Telegraph, Jaz says his song “is a story of two people in a relationship. The person telling the story compares everything his partner does, to the one he truly loves. It’s beautiful and yet sad at the same time, I just love it.”
