This work premiered in Moscow in September 1940, with David Oistrakh as soloist. It won the Stalin Prize for the arts the following year and has retained a foothold in the repertoire of violinists. It is divided into three movements:
Allegro con fermezza
Andante sostenuto
Allegro vivace
