Aram Khachaturian (1903-1978) was born in Georgia and moved to Moscow during the Soviet takeover of the Caucasus, enrolling in a prestigious music school without prior training. He was one of the leading Soviet composers and is known for various concertos and ballets, three symphonies, and the Masquerade Suite. A composer who frequently injected Armenian themes into his music, he is now regarded as a national treasure in Armenia.
