The Knight and the Knave is chapter #7 from the album The Prismatic Odyssey: Inception. A vocalist named Kristine provided her vocals for the chorus. The introduction of the song was meant to symbolize the opening ceremony of an immense battle about to take place. Each verse in this song has differe...
[Act 1]
The Knight and the Knave prepare to combat
A fierce might against a brave pedestrian under attack
A malevolent rider with a lance in the right hand
Versus an unarmored heart making an impossible stand
One: The unbeatable adversary
With impure intents, but has many advantages
The other is a vincible nobody
Who could never have the same privileges
My opponent has qualities I wouldn't dare to obtain
I have unimportant attributes I foolishly retain
I'm impeded again, unknown to the probable victor
Unsurprising to me, the predictor
[Act 2]
Your faults weave you two into a stronger connection
While mine untangle us leading to a powerful rejection
We're unraveling, why am I so powerless
Trying to impress them while you flourish
Publicly showcasing my inevitable loss
They both look so happy
An emotion I've yet to come across
Instead I'm consumed by jealousy
Can I continue to pretend I'll escape our end
Knowing my qualifications are too insufficient
It's tantalizing, inspecting a majestic vial
In which the contents of I cannot swallow
It's miraculous it could be in my possession
Largely exceeding each of my expectations
Can I prevent myself from losing this competition
Or should I forfeit due to my own limitations
[Interlude]
Tell me that you won't leave
Please don't let it be a lie
Don't cross the line opposite of my side
Say that you believe
In time we will unify
Is it an unrealistic hope I shouldn't try to deny
[Act 3]
I can't keep living as your shadow or fighting this uphill battle
I'm weary, so drained, so violated, disdained
While you, mesmerizing, alter my reasoning
By depicting yourself as the head of a monarchy
Owning a royal chalice with incredible balance
Exuding a potent fragrance, inhaled across a far distance
Attracting those unworthy of your admiration
And stunning those unfit for your affirmation
Minstrels, stewards, any feeble peasants
Contest over you using predictable presents
I'm humble to be so close and near you daily
Someday hoping my loyalty will pay off secretly
If you took away my role, I'd have no one
But you'd still rule an entire kingdom
Whose armor shines grasping your eyes gaze
Obscuring me in their natural haze
Observe their flawless characteristics
Praise them for their valiant heroics
I fall to pieces against my formidable foe
I call for you to heal my lethal woe
Sadly, against them I'm incomparable
At the start of the race they were already past the goal
I rationalize your faults, don't think you own imperfections
To me they're apparent, fully logical explanations
You allow me to be a part of your inner circle
In which I always express to you how I'm thankful
Yet their rank still surpasses mine to no avail
How could I possibly prevail knowing I will always fail
I want to wake and divulge myself to you entirely
But am I doomed to a life in which I repeat infinitely
[Interlude]
Tell me that you won't leave
Please don't let it be a lie
Don't cross the line opposite of my side
Say that you believe
In time we will unify
Is it an unrealistic hope I shouldn't try to deny
[Act 4]
I found, and lost you simultaneously
I concede defeat to my archenemy
Congratulations to the inadvertent thief
Reinforcing my meticulous belief
"Virtuous behavior is inferior to the superficial"
A theory most should consider practically official
In rare cases some had factors that let them escape
The eventual laws that are my inevitable fate
Haven't you done enough, taken too much
Deprived me, ruined their innocent touch
I understand your temptation, it compels me too
So no/From this moment on I'll overthrow you
I may be low class, but I have the true valor
I deserve the glory of having our majesty's honor
From knave to squire to knight
I'll evolve into a champion and overcome your might
You've won before, not anymore
Wait, see what I have in store
So you have the appeal, the marvelous skill
And you think you have a superior will
I have tenacity, chivalry, and latent ability
I'm destined to surmount mediocrity
If you're a virus then I'm the cure
Defeating you means I'll ensure my future
Ending a plague thought unconquerable
Using medicine called courage in this brutal battle
I'll craft a shield you could never penetrate
Release a legendary sword to slash through your hate
It's time to discontinue your disruption
Wallow in your own misery and dysfunction
Anger, hate, despair no longer bind me
They can't hold me down as long as you're beside me
