[Verse 1]
Sometimes I feel cold, even paralyzed
My interior world needs to sanitize
I've got to step through or I’ll dissipate
I'll record my step through for my basement tapes
[Chorus]
Nice to know my kind will be on my side
I don't believe the hype
And you know you’re a terrible sight
But you'll be just fine
Just don't believe the hype
[Verse 2]
Yeah, they might be talking behind your head
Your exterior world can step off instead
It might take some friends and a warmer shirt
But you don't get thick skin without getting burnt
[Chorus]
Nice to know my kind will be on my side
I don't believe the hype
And you know you're a terrible sight
But you'll be just fine
Just don't believe the hype
(Take me with you)
[Bridge]
(We’re gonna rely pretty heavily
On technology
And energy
To cover up the fact that we’re only two people
But I think we can do it)
No, I don't know which way I’m going
But I can hear my way around
No, I don't know which way I'm going
But I can hear my way around
No, I don't know which way I’m going
But I can hear my way around
No, I don't know which way I'm going
But I can hear my way around
But I can hear my way around
[Chorus]
Nice to know my kind will be on my side
I don't believe the hype
And you know you're a terrible sight
But you'll be just fine
Just don't believe the hype
(Don't believe the hype)
Nice to know my kind will be on my side
I don't believe the hype
And you know you're a terrible sight
But you'll be just fine
Just don't believe the hype
Nice to know my kind will be on my side
I don't believe the hype
And you know you're a terrible sight
But you'll be just fine
Just don't believe the hype

The Hype was produced by Paul Meany & Tyler Joseph.
twenty one pilots released The Hype on Fri Oct 05 2018.
When asked about “The Hype” by Coup de Main Magazine, Tyler answered
I think that song in particular, I wanted to go back to – - When I was a bit younger, maybe even in grade school, just some of the production of that song reminded me of that. But also, lyrically addressing who I was when...
“The hype” is what the world is telling him. Tyler’s depression causes his internal thoughts to haunt him. Since a lot of his songs deal with these internal thoughts and ideas, Tyler decided to make this one about the external ideas that come to him too.
Yes, there is! It was released on July 26th, 2019 on YouTube. Previously, there was just an animated audio video that released with the rest of the Trench album.
In this interview, Andrew Donoho, music video director, explained that Tyler used it to symbolize cliché rock artist clothing, referring to the typical, rather than the atypical fan-artist relationship expressed by the song.
Yes. It was certified Gold by the RIAA on August 13, 2020, making it the fifth song from Trench to achieve this milestone.
