“Leave the City” closes the album with a declaration to escape Dema. In the big picture as it relates to the album, this song describes Tyler Joseph coming to terms with the fact that battling a mental health problem takes time and that the path to addressing it is not always straightforward. [Verse 1]
I'm tired of tending to this fire
I've used up all I've collected
I have singed my hands
It's glowing, embers barely showing
Proof of life in the shadows
Dancing on my plans
[Chorus]
They know that it's almost
They know that it's almost over
They know that it's almost
They know that it's almost over
[Verse 2]
The burning is so low it's concerning
'Cause they know that when it goes out
It's a glorious gone
It's only time before they show me
Why no one ever comes back
With details from beyond
[Chorus]
They know that it's almost
They know that it's almost over
They know that it's almost
They know that it's almost over
(They know)
They know that it's almost over
(They know)
They know that it's almost over
(They know)
(They know)
(They know)
(They know)
[Bridge]
In time, I will leave the city
For now, I will stay alive
In time, I will leave the city
For now, I will stay alive
In time, I will leave the city
For now, I will stay alive
In time, I will leave the city
For now, I will stay alive
[Chorus]
They know that it's almost
They know that it's almost over
They know that it's almost
They know that it's almost over
(They know)
(They know)
[Verse 3]
Last year I needed change of pace
Couldn't take the pace of change
Moving hastily
But this year, though I'm far from home
In Trench I'm not alone
These faces facin' me
[Outro]
They know

twenty one pilots released Leave the City on Fri Oct 05 2018.
The last few words on “Leave the City” are ‘they know what I mean.’ That song, not only is it inside of the narrative, but in that narrative, I knew that I needed to leave somewhere, and start a journey in this point in-between two places that a lot of us can find ourselves in. Whatever version of t...
In an interview with Alternative Press magazine, Tyler stated:
The song is definitely about losing faith, which I’ve been working through on this record. It’s something that may have moved the needle for me during the last record and touring cycle"
It is the City of DEMA, which is a physical portrayal of Tyler’s depression.
As of right now, there is no clues of the band’s next album.
As the final song on Trench, “Leave the City” serves to give Tyler hope that he will eventually leave the city of Dema, which represents his depression. He isn’t out of it yet but at least he is not stuck there like in Blurryface or in-be...
