Ryan Shaver was Hannah Baker’s friend, he helped her express her emotions on paper making poems. He wants her to share her songs but she denies that with the excuse that Liberty High is not the place to express any weakness, worse with Hannah’s reputation.
Ryan decides to steal one of her poems and...
[Tony]
Ryan Shaver
Editor in chief of the school paper
English major to be
Even gayer than me
[Ryan]
He reads the pain in Hannah’s brain
As a gift for language
Ammunition came out of Ryan’s submission
Why is it tradition for the depressed artist
To harvest emotion on a stage?
Does that free him from his cage?
[Tony]
Or are his thoughts just on display for critique?
If he speaks do we listen
Or are we just entertained by his prison?
Man, I don’t know
[Hannah]
My pencil speaks the words that my lips don’t dare
I’m breathing lead instead of air
Fingers tremble and resemble my body when I’m bare
I never plan out the words, I just write and they’re there
I don’t worry how it sounds
I just let the thought thicken and slowly drip out
Otherwise it all lingers and then drowns me
You don’t understand
I don’t want my thoughts on display
I’m not looking for a snap from the background
Chaos in my ears, not waiting for cheers
Tryna get it down...
I can’t have my thoughts on display
They’d attack, if they laughed I would crack like glass..
A simple sigh can become a siren
When there’s a symphony in the silence
[Ryan]
You’re not alone
Unless you close all the doors to the outside Hannah
Let your words free and you might see
More than you think would understand
And you don’t have worry how it sounds
Doesn’t matter if they whisper or they pound
If you’re hiding it’s hard then to be found
Take it from me
I was afraid once
Hid my pain cause I thought it would fade if it was muzzled
Once I finally let go and let flow
I finally broke the glass
A simple sigh can sometimes enlighten
When there’s a symphony in the silenc-
[Hannah]
Ryan, stop trying, I’ve made up my mind
It’s not about hiding, just saving my time
Liberty’s not the place for a symphony
If it’s from me, then they’ll scoff at my timpani
I just want the noise to fade away
[Ryan]
I didn't know what to say
[Tony]
She wipes her eyes
She walks to the bathroom
He hears her cry
[Ryan]
I want to open the door, but I...
Steal a page to show her what I mean
Steal a page to set her music free
Steal a page and maybe she will see she’s not so alone
Let's see
“Something shifts deep inside
Suddenly you decide to let go of fear
Chaos rings in my ears
But there’s only me here
There’s nowhere to hide.”
Beautiful
A symphony..
