I know this town like the back of my hand
I know how to get lost ‘cause that’s where I am

Far from the picture that’s been painted
Even in a good light it’s a shallow interpretation
It takes a gaslit nation to stand behind the crimes coming out of our paycheck

And meanwhile wonder when your dreams will make it out of bed
It seems so hard to make things happen
I can sympathize with a suicide
You know we’re living through a functioning crisis
Self-destruction lights a fire but my hands are megaphones pointed at the sky

‘Cause spite burns brighter
Don’t matter your social status or where you came from
We’re all living under someone else’s thumb
Compartmentalizing our freedom as means of production
Hostages for someone else’ profits

Never trust a president
Never trust a nation
Don’t assume your teacher is right
Do your own education

History is a record
And it’s never an accident when you find out what no one ever told you
It will unfold into the truth
I hate the USA in particular
On performative holidays
It’s time to pay up and quit praying to the flag and calling it values

Pitting one and all against everybody else
