[HOOK]
I try to rap like I act like in real life
It feels right and real nice. I feel like
If you don’t act like you rap like in real life
The half-life of your last song won’t be that long
[VERSE]
Homogeneity of language is so commonplace
Within genres. Do you think a rapper ought to say
The things that other rappers say? A shared vocab?
Or might that turn the listener into some type of nomad
Who flip flops between undifferentiated products?
Like, perhaps you have a favorite brand of bottled water
But if you’re thirsty, and the weather’s getting hotter
And they only have another kind would you turn down the offer?
No. They’re basically the same
That’s why they kind of like the song, but they don’t know the artist’s name
And they don’t feel the need to know because the parts all interchange
And by the time the song is online for a week it’s been replaced
That’s why one day the thought occurred to me:
I’d rather have these rhymes of mine release into obscurity
Than write a song that could be written by somebody else
Why would I copy paste when I can say it for myself?
