I think it’s fine to be just OK
Won’t live forever, but I hope I die of old age
So I can tell my grandkids about the old days
When every single thing we did was uphill both ways
I hit the blunt and bump Coltrane
And dance around the living room like I’m on soul train
It’s so insane that people make it to the same plane
And one could go Dave Grohl, the other Kurt Cobain
There’s no shame in eating lo mein
Alone on a Friday night watching Shark Tank
I paid attention to the lyrics that my heart sang
So why would I concern myself with who might think my art’s lamе?
Never that. The most clеver cat
Who ever endeavored to rap. That’s a fact
What I lack in haberdashery I make up for in mastery
Gladly above average and happily satisfactory
Life is haphazard, there’s no patterns
Beyond the ones we imagine to be thematic
Verses written like Central Park placards
Scattered thoughts that a poet once thought mattered
That you can quickly pass by or stop and stare
Dig deeper or treat them like they’re not even there
As the dust builds and rust grows from open air
The words remain in place just in case somebody decides to care
Inspiration is neither here nor there
Nor anywhere in particular because it’s everywhere
Through self-consciousness grew self aware
I self-publish, foot the budget, combat despair
NAHreally’s really a nom de guerre
Under which I grapple with my inner cynic
It’s unclear when I’ll be finished with the battle that I’ve waged
But for the moment I take solace in the fact I live to fight today
