Phantasm is the first song off the Born in the Dark album (excluding the intro track, Judgment) and tells the story of a ghost that haunts a manor. The name of the song came from frontman Joey Love’s first band, which was also called Phantasm.
Pour your salt around the house
The Devil’s come to play
In your room under your bed
I’m always awake
I have come to pay my dues
And you are the receiver
Pull yourself under the sheets
Tonight, I’m your grim reaper
The afterlife is all that’s left, or so it seems
I’m here to stay and play a game, don’t call a priest
The dark secrets inside these walls exposed to you
“Ghosts aren’t real” you tell yourself, but you’re no fool
What am I?
Whisper things into your ear
While you try to sleep
Only God can save you now
Or you’ll end up like me
Left to walk the wonderous earth
Now roaming these halls
No Ouija board is needed
To hear my spirit’s call
The afterlife is all that’s left, or so it seems
I’m here to stay and play a game, don’t call a priest
The dark secrets inside these walls exposed to you
“Ghosts aren’t real” you tell yourself, but you’re no fool
What am I?

Phantasm!
In this manor’s walls
Phantasm!
Hear the spirit’s call
What am I?
