I saw you at the picture show
You thought I'd never know but I found you
You were holding hands, with some other man
While strangers swirled all around you
You had driven down to a neighboring town
You wanted to see your sister
From the way carried on, I wouldn't really say you missed her
I saw you at the motel pool
You were with that fool and you were laughing
Your skin was brown, he had his arms around you
The sun was bright and you were laughing
And I could see by the look on your face
That I had no place in your future
You can probably guess what you've done to my world
Or maybe I should paint you a picture
Green is for my jealousy my anger will be red
Blue is always sadness let's make purple stand for dread
Yellow is the sun crawling through the sky to mark the passing days
Brown is for the bourbon and the bottle
And grey will be my haze
I saw you in the courtroom too
You were wearing blue you looked pretty
The judge wore black I stood and turned my back
And I walked out into the city
I hope that you can understand
I couldn't shake your hand I couldn't be a man
You go on and live out your life
I'll go on painting by numbers
Green is for my jealousy my anger will be red
Blue is always sadness let's make purple stand for dread
Yellow is the sun crawling through the sky to mark the passing days
Brown is for the bourbon and the bottle
And grey will be my haze
