On “Outlaw Lover”, Lords tells a story of a wronged woman who confronts her unfaithful lover. She was heavily inspired by cowboy stories and old westerns while writing the lyrics for the song.
“Outlaw Lover” is the sixth track off her debut studio album 1000 Fires.
[Verse 1]
He came from the desert to this one horse town
Turned my whole life upside down
Branded me his little flower
Smelled of whiskey and his kiss was sour
I was a gunslinger itching for a fight
A hell bent bitch riding the night
I went on down to Hoot Owl Hollow
Knowing that trouble would surely follow
[Chorus]
Bang bang, he's an outlaw lover
Bang bang, better run for cover
Bang bang, he's an outlaw lover
You best be warned, I'm a woman scorned
[Verse 2]
With the wink of my eye and a toss of my hair
I give my love a deadly stare
Everyone knows all over town
Let's settle the score come sun down
[Chorus]
Bang bang, he's an outlaw lover
Bang bang, better run for cover
Bang bang, he's an outlaw lover
You best be warned, I'm a woman scorned
[Outro]
That cowboy had to pay for his lust
I guess you could say he bit the dust
