One Thing (Live Acoustic) Lyrics

[Intro]
I live in Texas, but whenever I go to Nashville, I, uh
I used to stay at this place called the Shoney's Motel
It's now the Best Western and they've changed the whole area, but
Used to be the seedy little part of town
Right by Music Row, which
Some people would say Music Row's the seedy part, but
Um, where I was stayin' was actually— the— the actual seedy part
Where is the least likely in Nashville not to get robbed
And I usеd to stay at this room, 1— room 124
It's this place where thеy— you know, it's a back corner suite
It's on the back side of the motel
I don't know why I liked it back there, I just did
It seemed like a nice place to hang out
Try and write, and, uh
Just where we stayed, and
One night I walked in
And it was the very first night, this was a few years ago
It was the very first night of this new programming called "reality programming"
Which I thought was pretty funny
Especially when I saw this show
I was watchin' this show called The Bachelor and the whole premise was twenty-five
Hot women in one room tryna get with one dude
And, uh, I'm— I'll never forget seein' that and thinkin'
"Wow, that's reality, huh? Guess I must be out of touch"
Twenty-five chicks in one room tryna get with one guy
That— That, uh, I don't know where that happens, except, I guess
It's entertainment, baby
So at the time I was feelin', uh, pretty lucky in the fact that I was falling in love
For the, uh, second time with the same woman
I was a few years into my marriage
And everybody kept tellin' me that there's gonna be upsides and downsides
To your marriage, and I was beginning to wonder where the upside was
But, this— at this particular point in time, uh
I was acctually beginning to see, uh
To see that, you know
Those old dudes that try and give you unsolicited advice
Sometimes if you listen, they
They actually are right sometimes, uh
So I sat down in my room and I wrote this song during the first dramatic growth ceremony
Of the first Bachelor show ever
It's not about twenty-five things, it's about one, one thing

[Verse 1]
I used to be so down and out
I used to be so blue
Now the only thing I talk about
Yeah, the only thing I do
Is spin around like a school kid
Just off the merry-go-round
If I'm dizzy it's 'cause I'm headed
To the one good thing I've found

[Chorus]
The one thing as good as gold
Hey, I'm nothing without you to hold
Yeah, one thing I know in this world
Is I need you to be my girl

[Verse 2]
I got so good at hiding
I couldn't find myself
Yeah, but baby, you got me smiling
Now I feel like somebody else
Yes, you changed my makeup
I ain't the same sad clown
And ever since you showed up
Well, this ain't just the same sad town

[Chorus]
The one thing as good as gold
Hey, I'm nothing without you to hold
Yeah, the one thing I know in this world
Is I need you to be my girl

[Instrumental Break]

[Chorus]
Yeah, the one thing as good as gold
Hey, I'm nothing without you to hold
Yeah, the one thing I know in this world
Is I need you to be my girl
Yeah, the one thing as good as gold
Hey, I'm nothing without you to hold
Yeah, the one thing I know in this world
Is I need you, be my girl

[Outro]
Be my girl
You're the one thing
You're the one thing
You're the one thing
