Nests in Chests

Lead us in your gentle way
Even as we're tossed by waves

The boat kept us stride
But it made us its slaves
Hope to find a harbor safe
For this wreck of a man
So say it will do

Late at night the sun goes down
Photographs whisper a dirge
I struggle to sleep but I finally submerge

As I lie down every evening
Part of me rises awake
Roof opens wide
And the night becomes right
Up on my feet as i'm dreaming
A dove flies in through the space
And purges onto my heart
Pulled from its case

I see the dove from the heavens
Fly just above my head
Stretch out my hands to bring it closer
As my arms rise to beat it
The dove comes and enters my chest
And fashions a nest from broken vessels

Dove give us a heart that breaks
Stay with us when we wake

We leave unto you what you've done
When you lie down to rest
Your shoulders support
As you grant our request
