mommy’s fear

My heart, and this one thing that I always remember
When I was pregnant with my oldest son, and
People would always ask me
Are you, you know, are you scared?
Are you concerned about giving birth
And, and going through delivery?
And the one thing that's always stuck with me was that
I'm fine to go through delivery
What I'm more fearful of is raising a Black son
In this, day, in this age, in this generation
And ensuring that he lives to be a law-abiding citizen
Who will give back to his community
And be God-fearing
And, you know that he will not get caught up
In any of the ills of this world
But I don't know how much I can really protect him from it
And, so, that was a thing that fear, that, that, I was so fearful of
And living through the pandemic
And living through those experiences, last year
Were really, that really heightened again for me
And it really gave me a
An even deeper fear for my sons
