“Leon” is the final track off The Japanese House’s 3rd EP, Swim Against the Tide.
This track was inspired by the classic 1994 film Léon: The Professional, and is sung in the perspective of the protagonist, Mathilda. Amber wrote it as an epilogue to the movie.
In an interview with Atwood Magazine,...
[Verse 1]
Léon I’m smart
I got myself a good guy
Oh Léon when she broke your heart
You got yourself a good gun
Oh Léon, he had a daughter
And when I saw her, I could see his sun
I watched him kiss her and it felt so boring
There must be something more than that
[Chorus]
While it was going on, I got it wrong
I hadn't figured out until you were gone, Léon, Léon
Take her back into your arms, send her flowers, what she wants
Laugh about it and move on
[Verse 2]
Léon it's all going wrong
Now I’m stuck within this lie
You say you'd die before you were gone
But when we fucked, it was alright
Oh I love to watch it when you fire
And when you kiss her well I saw right through it
I know that we had it right
[Chorus]
While it was going on, I got it wrong
I hadn't figured out until you were gone, Léon, Léon
Take her back into your arms, send her flowers, what she wants
Laugh about it and move on
[Bridge]
Léon is so slow
Another person comes and goes
Is it enough to keep you coming around?
And Léon is so slow
I used to hate watching you go
I love the feeling just before you go down
And Léon is so slow
Another person comes and goes
Is it enough to keep you coming around?
And Léon is so slow
I used to hate watching you go
I love the feeling just before you go down

I’d read that in the film Léon, Matilda was actually supposed to have sex with Léon, and I thought that was crazy and got a bit obsessed with it and wrote a song about it. I’m still working on the song but will probably change the name.
