Job is playing an accordion, which gets taken away from him by the band. He gets handed a smaller accordion, which also gets taken away. Finally, his pitch pipe gets taken and he’s left without an instrument. He wails his torment to the heavens.
[JOB]
The fire of God fell from heaven
And burned up the sheeps and the oxen
A great wind came across the desert
And fell on the heads of my children
I got loathsome sores from the sole of my foot
To the crown of my head
And now my God, my God, my sweet sweet God
I was that I was dead
Well, I always thought You were the best
And now You put me to the test
And now my God, my God, my sweet sweet God
I wish that I was dead
You took my daughters
You took my sons
You took my good stuff
You took my fun
You took my sweetness
You took my pride
You took my joy and I'm dead inside
And my shoes don't fit and I'm allergic to cats
And last night in the kitchen I swear I saw a rat
I don't have enough time, and it's raining again
And I hate my mother and I lost my pen
My baby was butchered, my soul's on fire
I slit my wrists on an old piano wire
My mind wanders and I drink all the time
I've been beaten, I've been raped, is the guilt all mine?
No one loves me enough, and my belly's too large
I don't have enough stuff and there's bad guys in charge
And the people I love, they can be so mean
There's a pain that gnaws me
I'm afraid to be alone
Terrors plague me
The night racks my bones
And You've forgotten me
And You've turned your back
And this world is shit
And You don't do jack
And well my God, my God, my sweet sweet God
I wish that You were dead
[ENSEMBLE]
La da da, da da, da da da da...
[JOB]
I have become like dust and ashes
And I cry to You and You do not answer me
You toss me about in the roar of the storm
And I would speak to the Almighty
I desire to argue my case with God
Why do You hide Your face?
Answer me! Answer me!
Get down here and answer me!!!!!!
(God comes down)
[GOD/JOB]
You don't know what it's like to be me
You don't know what it's like to be me
You don't know what it's like to be me
You don't know what it's like to be me-
[GOD]
Enough! Silence!
Gird up your loins like a man. I will question you
Were you there when I laid out the Earth?
Who measured it?
Surely you know!
Or who shut in the sea
When it burst out from the womb?
Surely you know!
Have you commanded the morning since your days began
And caused the dawn to know its place
So that it might take hold of the skirts of the Earth
And the wicked be shaken out of it?
What's it like at the gates of death?
Surely you know!
Or how about the gates of deep darkness?
Surely you know!
For you were born then, and the number of your days is great!
What about horses (I made those)
How'd they get so big and strong?
Surely you know
It leaps like a locust
Its majestic snorting is terrible
How come? Oh, oh yeah, you know
Can you lift up your voice to the clouds
So that a flood of waters covers you?
Can you send forth lighting, can you send forth snow?
The ostrich flaps its wings wildly
[JOB]
I really wanna punch you in the fucking
In the fucking face
Yes I really wanna punch you in the fucking face
I really wanna punch you in the fucking
In the fucking face
Yes I really wanna punch you in the fucking face
[GOD]
Consider Leviathan
Can you draw it out with a fish-hook
Or press down its tongue with a cord?
Will it speak soft words to you?
Will you play with with it as with a bird
Lay hands on it;
Think of the battle;
You will not do it again!
Can you open the doors of its face?
There is a terror all around its teeth
It's big, and I made it!
Its mouth is a torch
Sparks of fire leap out
And out of its nose comes smoke
As if from a boiling pot
It sneezes light
Its eyes are the dawn
You think you can do that?
Aw yeah really come on
Its breath kindles coals
Flame comes out of its mouth
Its neck is the North
Its legs are the South
Its terrible dancing
Leaves a shining wake
On Earth it has no equal
Leviathan is king over all that are proud
[ENSEMBLE]
He's
Gonna
Punch her
In the
[JOB]
Fucking face
(He punches GOD in the nose)
