Written as a challenge to ‘write a Christmas song’. The last time Steve was challenged in a similar way was 36 years previous, and that temporary Christmas ‘write’ transmuted (eventually and surprisingly) into ‘Kick Out The Tories’
which was released in 1981 by the Newtown Neurotics.
It’s Chrismas...
Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah
Well now, the years fly by, where do they go? They slip through your fingers before you know and
Me and your mum, we fell in love and with you we made a home
Now times are hard and so cruel; they changed the father that you once knew
When I was at home happiness left the room and now you, don’t want me around, no you don’t want me around
But it’s Christmas time, oh yeah, NaNaNa
But, it's Christmas time! Wohoho
It was Christmas Eve when the snow came down, it prettified an otherwise ugly town
And a hush fell all around, the children playing out
Every snowflake a memory, of when I was a child, and my family and me and dad having fun, as we played out in the snow, as we played out in the snow
It was Christmas time, oh yeah, NaNaNa
It's Christmas time! Wohoho
Now I watch you while you’re sleeping, alone in your room, I’d love to kiss you on the cheek but, you would wake up too soon
I leave your presents by the tree then slip back out into the night
But I feel bad, yeah I feel bad, I let you down, I let you down, I was not around when you needed me the most
But I want to, make it up....to you!
Now, it’s Boxing Day, I’m alone indoors, staring at a miserable three-bar fire when all of a sudden there’s a knock at the door and a silhouette your size
I open up and you say to your shoes “Mum said I should spend some time with you”
I say, don’t come in, let’s both go out, come on let’s play out in the snow, let’s go and play out in the snow
Now it’s Christmas time, Oh yeah, Nah Nah Nah
Yeah its Christmas time, Woah oh oh
Yeah now it’s Christmas time, Oh yeah, Nah Nah Nah
Yeah It’s Christmas time, Woah oh oh
Yeah, Yeah its Christmas time, Oh yeah, Nah Nah Nah
Yeah It’s Christmas, Christmas time, Woah oh oh
Yeah, Yeah its Christmas time, oh yeah Nah Nah Nah
Yeah It’s Christmas, Christmas time …. Woah oh oh oh o oh
And it’s no time for being alone
No, no, no, no, no!
