In “In a River”, Rostam tells a story about him and a romantic partner skinny dipping together at night.
In a press release, he explains that it’s the first song he ever wrote on a mandolin and that its recording was heavily influenced by interaction with audiences on tour.
[Verse 1]
Slide into the cool mud
Underneath the pines
Somewhere to your right or left
Is my body you can find
[Chorus]
We are swimming with no clothes on
In a river in the dark
And I am holding on to you, boy
In the faint light of the stars
[Verse 2]
So you wade out across the marsh
Water up to your waist
Carry our stuff above your head
Till the dune comes to a crest
[Chorus]
We are swimming with no clothes on
In a river in the dark
And I am holding on to you, boy
In the faint light of the stars
[Bridge]
But sometimes I feel it
In a dream I know I've been there
We were sleeping by the ocean
We were laughing on the warm sand
We stay up all night
And we wake up in the sunlight
We got dreams we keep together
We got time to spend, oh, hell yeah
[Chorus]
We are swimming with no clothes on
In a river in the dark
And I am holding on to you, boy
In the faint light of the stars
[Outro]
We are lying
On the beach now
Everything is warm
We are staying up
Through a wild night
In the faint light
Of the headlights
Of passing cars
